Final 2020 open results

Well, that’s all folks. Just like that the second Open of the 2019 calendar year has come to a close. Our 2020 Crossfit Open marked the first time the classes have thrown down against each other. Our goal was to create some friendly rivalry and competitions for some serious bragging rights and a real solid trophy with the class name on it. I wanted to make a quick post about the results and more importantly, to encourage everyone to keep the momentum going moving forward. Here’s how things shook out.

In week one we saw the noon class, #CEO, come out to a quick start on the Rx side of the score sheet with a first place finish. “Jay’s FavoUrites” took the W on the scaled side. From there on out, it was the noon class with a run away performance on both the scaled and Rx scoring. The only faulter out of the top spot in each came in week 5 when they placed second in Rx and third in scaled. By that time, it was too late for anyone to catch them.  #CEO finished with 29 out of a possible 30 points on the Rx side; the next closest score coming way of a three way tie at 19. The scaled points were a much tighter race. At the end of the five weeks, noon class finished with 23 but 6&7AM (“Six On The Beach”) were right behind finishing with 21. Three other teams all finished within a few points behind that in a very tight race!  Congratulations to #CEO for a great showing throughout the five weeks and coming out on top of the heap!

Regardless of which class you were a part of, whether you registered for the Open or not, or were able to make it in for all five workouts, a huge hand of applause from your’s truly for the efforts. I know we had a few new faces join the gym during the Open who were maybe a little taken back at first at the “competition” style days (I was there to see it on one of their faces haha).  The coach quickly explained and made sure they had it all understood before too long. Fact is, the Open is a great opportunity to maybe put that little bit extra effort in to a workout and really see what you are able to do. Another fact, its good to do that all in the name of fun!  I think by nature, most of us in the gym have that “competitive side” that makes an appearance whenever a scorecard is introduced. That’s fantastic and that is what pushes us all to be better on a daily basis.  Keep that momentum moving forward.

That same driving force that maybe pushed you a little extra in the Open is a great thing to carry on going forward. One of my 6am faithful’s set herself a goal of competing in the Be Like Bruce this summer; her very first Crossfit competition. I’ve seen that drive push her since she shared that goal with me. I talk a lot in these blogs about having a goal, training with purpose, quality movement, etc. All of these things are easier to adhere to with a end-goal in mind. Pick something, whatever it might be, and work towards it. Maybe it’s the Be Like Bruce, maybe it’s next year’s Open, maybe it’s just making it in consistently three or fours days a week. Use the momentum coming off this Open to set that new goal.  As always, our coaches are available to sit down with you and do a personal goal setting session. From there, we can help create a plan that will set you up for success and get you going in the right direction.

With another Open come to an end, don’t let the ball stop rolling. Keep it going!  To everyone who had reason to celebrate during the Open, congratulations! I hope you were able to share in that joy with friends around you and make it memorable.
