Something for everyone

I have the day off work. Once the 7am social media posts get out into the world, it won’t be a surprise to anyone (haha).  I hope you all had a designated driver to get yourselves home at 8 in the morning!  Anyways, having the day away from coaching allowed me to get in to the gym and work out with our FitOverFiftyYXE group. Usually I am at the helm of the group but Rebecca stepped in today. I got to do the entire class with them, which was most excellent. Thanks for allowing to be on the other side of the “PVC”, we shall say, Rebecca and thanks to the group for the amazing workout.

Being able to hop in with our FitOverFifty group is something unique to any good Crossfit gym. It’s what sets Crossfit, and Reebok Crossfit 306 specifically, from other training groups or methods. In our FitOverFifty program, we have dedicated people who have made the choice to make their health a priority. Regardless of where they are at on their fitness journey, they are getting better, starting from that point. I have been training Crossfit for a few years now and have a decent base of fitness. I am also a couple or a couple couple of years younger than them. Here’s the point: I did the exact same workout as they did. My movements and my rep scheme were the same. We also have one member right now recovering from a broken foot. So Coach Rebecca adjusted her movements, weights and reps so we can aid in that recovery while not increasing pain.

So we had a coach who trains at a high level, a group full of people who are no younger than 50 (we don’t want to give away their real ages ;) ) and one of them recovering from a broken foot all doing the same workout. Do you want to know who got the best workout?

Everyone!

We all did what we came to do. We all worked to our level of intensity that we were comfortable with. We all broke a sweat, got more fit and had fun doing it. Most importantly, we all worked to keep ourselves healthy.  It doesn’t matter what the workout is that wrote on the board when you walk in. There is no such thing a workout that is “too easy” or “too hard” if you are training with a capable coach. It’s up to you to put in the effort!  Every workout is designed with it’s own stimulus in mind. We don’t always want to be at the very top edge of intensity or we won’t be able to focus on technique. Just the same as we don’t always want to be so slow and methodical that all intensity goes away. Each of those things have it’s placed, but neither of them are any good for you on their own.

Regardless of is wrote on that shiny piece of glass when you walk in to the gym, go at it with effort and make it count. We are lucky to be able to train in a place that makes all that craziness make sense and appropriate for where we are at.

Thanks FitOverFiftyYXE for letting me a part of the group this morning.
