"I absolutely believe that sleep is the most powerful, least expensive, most accessible performance enhancer that you can get" - Alex Hutchinson
How familiar does this sound?
"I don't have time to sleep more than 6 hours"
"I don't have time to meditate"
"I don't have time to workout"
"I don't have time to prep meals"
It seems to be how we feel all of the time - TOO BUSY!
Here's is an interesting statistic...according to the Neilson Total Audience Report for 2019, the average North American spends more than 11 hours each day watching, reading, listening to or otherwise interacting with technology and media, which is up from 9:32 just 4 years ago. Simply watching TV takes 4 hours and 46 minutes per day!
I know why it happens, at least for me. I am working and then driving around and then planning meals, training and then when I finally get to sit down at the end of the day, I just want to "shut off" and watch a show. The problem that I find today is that it never ends. You don't have to wait until next week to see your next episode, you can just keep watching and all of a sudden, you have binge watched an entire season, missed your bedtime and going to be super tired tomorrow, just to repeat the cycle. It is so easy to be plugged in and entertained that we have forgotten how to just be with our own thoughts. So, I challenge you to track your time spent on technology. I know that work requires it, so you can make 2 lists, one for work and one for everything else. Every time you log on to IG or FB or YouTube, log it. Every show you watch or podcast you listen to, log it. Do this for a week and see how much "time" you could actually free up.
