If you don't know this beautiful lady, allow me to introduce her...she's my mom❤️
It's been 10 years since we opened our gym and my mom was one of our first members. She has been consistent and a regular for 10 years. I have watched her get stronger as she ages, not deteriorate. Sure, she has had a few set-backs such as foot surgery or a tweak here and there over the years, but she still shows up and does what she can to keep her body moving. So, for those that say, "I could never do that", well my mom can! CrossFit is a safe and effective way to be fit for whatever life throws your way. Here's what she has to say:
Hi Everyone.
It’s been quite a journey so far. I am well into my 67th circuit around the sun and going strong—still a delicate little flower, still don’t like callouses, but have come to appreciate sweat.
I have been a lifelong exerciser. I started with early morning shows like Kareen’s Yoga and Ed Ellen (I am that old!) graduating to Jane Fonda’s Workout tapes, then to Kathy Smith. I was really sad when our new TV did not work with my VCR. I owned some nifty exercise equipment too, like the thigh master, which by the way could also be used to uplift the bustline if so desired. I had an exercise bike, a ski machine and finally a treadmill—all of which helped me achieve some goal at the time, but eventually became like the relationship that faded away—no drama, no crisis, just ending because it just wasn’t working anymore.
My relationship with CrossFit has been different. After 10 years it hasn’t faded, rather it has changed and grown along with me. That’s the beauty of the sport. There are so many alternate forms for each movement. The coaches were able to adjust for my bum knee that year. Then when my arthritic feet became even more delicate, they were able to find ways for me to still work with the group and be challenged personally. They even figured out nicer alternatives for me than Burpees. ( I will let you in on a little secret... I could do them I just really hate them! SHHH).
Throughout the last few years, time spent at the gym has been interrupted for many reasons-- surgeries, (nothing serious) family obligations, and then Covid. I am so grateful for the ability to work out at home with minimal equipment, relying on the expertise of the coaches.
I look forward to when I can return to classes again, hopefully in September. I do miss seeing everyone.
