306 lifters put on a show!

This past Saturday, 306 held the last weightlifting meet of the 2014/2015 season.  Six of our athletes competed in this meet.

Kayla Arthurs, our youngest lifter, competed in her first Olympic lifting competition.  Though a rookie she competed like a veteran, she was able to PR her snatch by 5 pounds, going 5/6 on her lifts during the day.  Her totaled qualified her for the junior national Championships to be held in Regina this coming January.

Chelsea Andrews who had been coming off a shoulder injury hit a competition PR of 68kg in the clean and jerk.    She continues to develop into a proficient lifter.

Sam Mitchell came into Saturday looking for big PRs. She went 4/6 on her lifts. Successfully achieving competition best lifts, in both her snatch and clean and jerk.   Her Clean and jerk at 87kg or 191.4 pounds was a lifetime PR, and moves her to 3rd all time on the 306 Clean and Jerk board!

On the men side, Coach Jay, Nick and myself all came in ready to lift. As you all know Jason was coming off a hamstring injury and it was the first time he was able to compete. Putting on a show he went 6/6 with a 105kg snatch and a 132kg C & J.  This was a big milestone for Jason being able to lift after his injury.

Nick displayed beautiful skill and power in posting his best competition total, exceeding his last total by over 30kgs. Nick would start off by power snatching his first attempt. Missing his second attempt he would go up a kg and hit 88kg for a 1.5 kg PR. On the Clean and Jerk Nick would hit 105kgs getting called on his third attempt at 109kg, it is what we at 306 would call a “training make” this would technically be a PR for Nick as well.

I went into the meet for a ‘tune up’ after coming off 2 injuries as well. Confidence came back after hitting a smooth 85kg snatch and going 3/3 on my snatches for the first time ever.

Congrats to all the lifters. Seeing everyone lift at this meet on Saturday has made myself very proud of what 306 has built over the last couple years, especially what has been built over the past year in our newly expanded lifting room!   The next lifting competition will be Oct 31st.  Training starts Tuesday, come lift with us.
