Building a winning tradition.

As another throw down comes to a close, coach can't help but grin ear to ear.  We took 12 athletes plus our own Chief Medical Officer Aaron Johnson to Grande Prarie this past weekend for the second annual VO2MAX Winter throw down.  The air was dry and brisk but the atmosphere was electrifying.  The weekend started with the female scaled event.  Cassandra D'Amore set a stunning pace off the hop and would maintain the pace throughout all of her WODs throughout the weekend and finished a respectable 6th place overall.  Sam Mitchell with only 4 months of CrossFit under her belt would battle all weekend long and climb all the way to third.  Amanda Belchamber set the standards by which others tried to follow but none could.  She won all the WODS and cruised to a first place finish.

On the men scale, we had five men, Micheal Gore-Hickman, Rick Kahur, Bill Trelnuk, Stephane Gautreau, and Jon Turchenuk.  Bill finished tenth, and Stephane and Rick ended the contest tied for seventh.   Jon and Mike were each others top competitions and went into the finals guaranteed to both podium.  Unfortunately Jon sustained an injury in the finals and pulled out which dropped him to fifth and off the podium.  Mike powered through the final and took home first place overall after CrossFitting for only 5 months.

On the RX side the competition was fierce, Viki scrapped her way to an incredible 4th place finish,  taking an incredible 3rd place finish in the atlas stone WOD.  Laurie Thomson finished 10th but was nominated for the "Big Heart Award" for her impressive tenacity and her support for others.

On the men's RX side, Leo Belcourt finished an incredible 5th place, proving to be one of the more skilled big men in the competition.  He surprised everyone in the final including himself by finishing the handstand walk and getting a muscle up.

Coach had another great weekend, winning by a considerable margin two of four workouts.  Finished in third overall after struggling through the Atlas Stone hill climb WOD.

Overall one of the funnest weekends ever shared with so many great people.  306 took home 25% of all podium finishes, and won 4 out of 6 scaled WODS, and 2 out of 8 Rx WODS.  Very impressive showing, well done guys!
