It is with excitment that we would like to welcome Sarah Robbins as our official CrossFit Endurance Coach. Sarah has been with 306 since our opening month and already boasted an incredible background in enduro sports including a Gold medal at the World Master's Championships in road cycling. As such we could not think of anybody better to lead the charge for our Endurance program then Sarah, please help me in welcoming Sarah to our exceptional coaching staff.
Here is a look at her exceptional bio:
For as long as I can remember I have loved any challenge; especially if it involved physical activity. Most people would describe me as tenacious, competitive, fearless and relentless. So there’s no surprise that I fell in love with CrossFit after the very first WOD nearly two years ago. Considering my athletic background and aptitude, I was surprised to find that I had two left feet when it came to box jumping, well, pretty much any movement that didn't involve going forward in a straight line. But that is exactly why CrossFit got me hook, line and sinker!
I brought a strong background in endurance sports to the gym. I was a national level elite mountain biker, road cyclist, cyclocross racer and duathlete. I was a gold and silver medallist at the World Masters Games in road and mountain biking respectively. I have also finished in the top 10 of several triathlon age group world championships. Last year, I was inspired by my husband to race off road triathlon. So after a few years away from racing triathlon, I came back with a vengeance; I won my age group at Xterra Nationals in 2012, qualifying for Xterra Worlds in Maui where I went on to finish 11th. I was back at Xterra Nationals again this year with a repeat win of my age group and another shot at World’s. I attribute a lot of my success in off-road triathlon to the strength I have gained through CrossFit. While you need a big cardiovascular engine to be successful at endurance events like triathlon, you also need to be exceptionally strong to swim, then mountain bike and then get off and trail run!! All those box jumps, deadlifts and wall balls paid dividends when it came time to run off the bike. I also competed at Sweat Rx Prairie Region CrossFit Masters Competition 2012, where I placed 1st overall.
I have always had a strong interest in exercise physiology with my background in veterinary medicine. I have been able to apply my knowledge and passion to coaching adult athletes. I am one of the leaders of Saskatoon’s only women’s cycling group; the Pedal Wenches™, where I provide coaching and encouragement to athletes of all abilities in cycling, from newbies to seasoned cyclists. My goal is to help develop competitive cyclists within the Pedal Wenches™ into Saskatchewan's premiere women's road cycling team.
Inside the gym I can airsquat the pants off anyone, and outside the gym, I make a mean Americano!
