Welcome Amy Smith - New women's only Powerlifting coach

In an attempt to improve her half marathon time, Amy began powerlifting in 2012.  Although finishing with a much improved time of 1:53:37, she quickly dropped running for powerlifting.  In 2013 she won a national title in the Canadian Powerlifting Union (CPU) in the 57kg Women’s Open weight class.  More recently, she broke the Canadian 63kg national squat record (150kg/330lbs) at the North American Powerlifting Championship where she placed first.

Amy is heavily involved with powerlifting as she is currently a provincial certified referee and by coaching athletes individually or in seminars across the province.    Although she loves to see athletes (especially females) get involved in the sport, she enjoys coaching all types of athletes on the big 3 strength lifts to improve their sport of choice and get stronger.

Outside of the gym, Amy is a pharmacist (University of Saskatchewan, 2010) who works in pediatric oncology with the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency and recently completed her doctorate (University of Toronto, 2015).

Please help us welcome Amy in her new role as head of our women's powerlifting program.
