A community grows tighter!

This weekend over twenty of us competed at "The Battle At The Border", in Lyodminster.  We had athletes in all six divisions, including: master, scale, and RX.  The weekend was filled with highlights and community building moments.  As a coach, I couldn't be more proud of our athletes in terms of performance, sportsmanship, and the support they showed to not only each other but to all those within the greater CrossFit community.  I love it when our athletes are more excited about each others triumphs, then their own.  We are truly building something great at 306, and I'm just blessed to be part of it.

So here are highlights from this past weekend.

Men's Masters:
Both Scott Shirriff and Bruce Gordon made the finals.  Bruce won two out of four WODs, and finish second on the podium, Scott battled like a champ to a fourth place finish.

Women's Masters:
Chris Gordon and Gen Grant finished 6th and 7th respectively and never stop smiling.

Men's Scale:

Brenden Wehrkemp and Dave Mapeltoft aka"Mini" battled hard and both finished on the podium, Mini would edge out Brenden on the podium by winning both the opening WOD, as well as the chipper.  Micheal Rogers with only a few months under his belt finished in 9th, Bill Trelnuk 13th, Aaron Johnson finished 15th.  Congratulations Brenden and Mini, you now both get to move up to Rx:)

Women's Scale:
A very popular category, we qualified six girls into the semi-finals, and one into the finals.  When the dust settled, our ladies had the final rankings: Sam Mitchell 4th, Beth Kotsur 6th, Chandra Gerich 8th including first in the front squat WOD, CA 9th and was first in the first WOD, Stef Hughs 10th, Holly Deshaye 11th, Chelsea 16th, and Cassandra 21st.   Sam also will now be moving up to RX.

Women's Rx:
The event started on Friday night for the RX competitors and would include a total of 8 separate events in a span of 24hrs.  Completing the tournament was a feat by itself.  Coach Viki keeps on improving and finished 5th winning the Muscle up component of the workouts, Amanda Belchamber used her strength in the row to finish in the top ten, and finished 8th.  Laurie Thomson fought like a warrior, battling an injury throughout the tournament and finished 14th.

Men's Rx:
This was the first Rx competition for both Mike Gore-Hickman and Jon Turchenek.  They both performed incredibly well and persevered through all the workouts.  Mike would finish inside the top ten in 9th and Jon ended the throw down in 14th.  Coach redeemed himself after Montreal and took first.
