Is CrossFit Right For Me?

It is easy to get carried away in the inconsequential details of how we exercise, wondering if everything we do is optimal for our specific and unique bodies, and over analyzing each aspect of our workout routine in the name of “health.” However, for many of us, these details are entirely irrelevant, and in fact, we are focusing on the wrong aspect of finding a routine that works best for us. In reality, if you are engaging in an activity that increases your heart rate to any capacity you will see some form or positive change within your body as each time we exercise we are strengthening the function of our prefrontal cortex and hippocampus as well as releasing those “feel good” chemicals that aid in a positive mood. Thus, the matter in which we achieve these results does not matter all that much. As long as you increase your heart rate, you will still experience these effects. Therefore, the question of what routine is best for you is more a question of what you have time for, what you enjoy, and how it fits into your life. This is why we are such big advocates for CrossFit as a routine because it takes much of the decision-making out of the question, which is increasingly helpful as so many of us constantly struggle with decision fatigue and will often neglect to do something we know we should out of sheer exhaustion of options. When you come to CrossFit, you are committing yourself to one hour a day of exercise while also being in a social environment, which helps to hold you accountable and increase your likelihood of consistency. CrossFit also has a novelty aspect, with the constantly varied programming and movement patterns contributing to an overall healthier brain and body. The main message here is that you need to increase your heart rate and sweat if you wish to remain healthy and live a long and happy life; however, due to how society is constructed now and the most prominent values, that has proven to be increasingly difficult. It is hard to find the time to drive out and take a four-hour hike, and thus, using CrossFit as your main form of exercise can add a level of convenience into your life that makes it a suitable and enjoyable choice for most, especially with the hectic schedules that most of us have.
