It is seemingly inevitable that upon reaching adulthood, everything has to become a conscious choice, with the novelty and pleasure mostly removed. Instead of getting our daily dose of exercise by playing tag with friends or climbing trees, exercise becomes another chore that we know must be done to maintain proper health. Still, it loses the element of fun that caters to our innate desire to move. At Crossfit 306, our goal is to combat this problem, as we want to breathe new life into the adult fitness practice. Though there aren’t many people who come to us purely seeking a “good time,” more often than not, that ends up being the result: “Come for the fitness, stay for the fun”. By creating an environment that focuses on community, the gym becomes a place to socialize and partake in an hour of fitness with our friends. This may result in friendly competition taking your mind off the mindnuming amount of burpees ahead of you, or just a supportive environment that encourages you to do your best. The constantly varied programming also means a sense of novelty when we train, a rarity when we fall deeply into our regular routines and habits. In all, we know we have to exercise, and it may not always be the most appealing thing, but we can do our best to make it fun and perhaps see a bit of that childlike spark when you climb a rope next to your friend, not as good as a tree but a close second.
