The Open "A Coach's Perspective"

Well it's all done... or is it?

After an incredible 5 weeks the Open concluded this weekend.  In true Saskatchewan fashion the last WOD was celebrated with a BBQ and some light snow flurries.  So how did 306 stack up against the best in the region the best in the country and the best of the World?  Well let's take a look at the final standings.

As for World individual rankings we had three ladies finish incredibly high,
1. Phyllis Fowler finished 82nd in the World in the Master Women 60+ Category.
2. Sarah Robbins finished 121st in the World in the Master Women 45-50 Category
3. Janis Shirrif finished 122nd in the World  in 50-55 Category.

In Canada West we also had two impressive finishes,
1. Courtney Bowman finished 11th
2. Laura Werkamp finished 13th

Team 306 finished with the following rankings,
104th in the World,
7th in Canada
4th in Canada West

There was also a ton of incredible individual performances and more PRs were set that we can count.  My favorite moments were those in the last ten seconds of each WOD when everybody would be cheering each other on, athletes squeezing a few more reps and then crumbling in exhaustion.  With most of our athletes being completely new to CrossFit our future looks incredibly bright.  The WODs that we scored lower in were the ones that emphasized a high skill level, e.i. DU, MU, CTB pull-ups.  These skills take a little longer to develop and I have no doubt that we are well on our way to World domination, yeah I know I aim high.

So now what... Well because of our team ranking we will be selecting 3 men and 3 ladies to represent Reebok CrossFit 306 at Regional's next month in Vancouver.  This will be the content of a future message. As well stay tune for more info on the National Qualifiers for teams and Master's 40+ that will be held at 306 in June.

Great Work everyone!

306 moves up to Second!

Congrats to all of you phenomenal athletes.  The most technical WOD of the Open was posted and the 306 athletes showed they were up for the challenge.  The bulk of our athletes made it through 90 Double Unders, that is on the heels of 150 Wall Balls.  A very impressive feat, well done.  We had some incredible performances throughout the weekend.  Logan and Matt Hartery each successfully landed their MU in the last ten seconds of the   WOD.  The equivalent of hitting a three pointer at the buzzer in basketball.  Aaron Parker delivered a gutsy performance this morning and completed 12 Muscle Ups, outstanding.  As a result of all these incredible performances 306 now finds itself tied for 2nd in the West, with only one week left.  Exciting times!

Remember lets all celebrate the CrossFit Games Open with a season ending BBQ next Saturday from noon-4 at your favorite spot;)

306 Community B-B-Q

We are almost done with the Open with 12.4 finishing up this weekend.  It has been really fun over the past few weeks to have everyone come together and tackle the Open together.  In true 306 fashion, everyone cheered each other on and encouraged each other to leave nothing on the table.  We figured that we should take the time to celebrate together as well.  After we finish the WOD 12.5 on Saturday, March 24th, we'd like to have a B-B-Q at the gym.  Everyone is welcome - it doesn't matter if you participated in the Open or not.  It is a great chance for us to relax, unwind and enjoy each other's company over some food and drink rather than loud music and pools of sweat;).  Bring your own beef and beer and we'll have some salads and veggie trays set out.  See you there!

Snowy Tuesday

Well the snow didn't stop are athletes from coming in for a 306 painfest! Great work from everyone! You all dug deep until the last second of each cycle and you all killed it! Couple highlights from today was Drew Dubnyk and Camron Mini both got their muscle-ups today, so congrats to them both! Michelle and one of our newest members Kristen went head to head at the 6 o'clock class and it was pretty awesome to see, great job ladies and glad to have you on the 306 team Kristen! Like we say all the time, you all are rockstars and the improvements increase daily! Keep up the hard work guys and gals and anything is possible!

12.2 A Thrilling Day of Snatches

Well after Rd 1 of the open we couldn't believe that Rd 2 could be more exciting.  Well was it ever!  An electrifying supportive atmosphere would set the stage for our athletes to put an incredible display.  Pr's were happening so fast that we could barely keep track.  Dave Marsh put up an incredible 85 Snatches, Jesse Buydens scored an incredible 90 reps, and Jeremy "Bones" hit a 15 lbs PR.  None of this could ever of happened without all of you support each other.  Keep supporting each other and the World will be ours!

Janis Sherif, The open WOD, Steven Hodgson

Another exciting day at 306.  first off Janis Sherif posted an impressive 103 burpees on WOD 12.1 for the CrossFit Games Open.  This puts her into the top three in the World as of today.  Way to go Janis.

Remember we are only opening tomorrow at 10 for the Open WOD.  It  will take about an hour and a half to two hours to get everyone through.  So come do the WOD, and cheer your fellow athletes on, and enjoy all that is CrossFit.

As well, big congrats to Steven for getting his first Muscle Ups today.  306 rocks!!

Record Attendance, Laura.W, Oly Nights

Record breaking day at 306! We had 71 athletes train here today.  It seems that not even 100 thrusters can scare away these athletes.  Great showing by everyone today.
Big congrats to Laura W. for beating both coaches on today's WOD and posting an impressive 7:32.  Well done Laura!
On another note we will be suspending the Friday night Oly classes until the conclusion of the open.  Rest up and come and deliver your best performance every Saturday morning.
